When Is Stretcher Transportation Needed?

Families often need safe, pre-scheduled transportation when a loved one cannot travel by car but does not require emergency care. Aurevia provides non-emergency stretcher transfers — helping make hospital discharges and medical appointments easier to manage.

This is a non-emergency service. If urgent medical care is required, please call 911.

Hospital Discharge Transfers

When a patient is medically cleared but cannot travel by car, discharge timing often depends on reliable stretcher transport. Aurevia coordinates pre-scheduled hospital discharge transfers across Toronto and the GTA with confirmed pickup windows, equipment preparation, and direct communication to support smooth patient flow.

Inter-Facility Medical Transportation

Transfers between hospitals, long-term care homes, rehabilitation centres, and clinics require structured coordination and documented handover. Our service ensures controlled transfer movement, scheduled timing, and clear arrival confirmation throughout the GTA.

Transportation to Medical Appointments

For individuals who cannot sit upright or travel safely by car, scheduled stretcher transportation provides a stable and supervised alternative. We support diagnostics, treatments, and follow-up visits with confirmed routing, monitored transit, and arrival communication.

Specialized & Complex Transfers

Certain non-emergency transfers require enhanced preparation, specialized equipment, or isolation considerations. We support bariatric transport, infection-control protocols, post-procedure transfers, and extended-distance coordination.

Why Facilities and Families Rely on Aurevia

Pre-scheduled stretcher transport requires precision, accountability, and controlled execution. Aurevia is built specifically for non-emergency patient movement across Toronto and the GTA.

Confirmed Pickup Windows

Delays disrupt discharge flow and care schedules. We assign confirmed pickup windows and dispatch crews accordingly to prevent uncertainty and reduce waiting time.

Direct Facility Coordination

We coordinate directly with nursing stations, discharge planners, and care teams to verify access points, mobility needs, and required equipment before dispatch.

Controlled Transfer Handling

Each transfer follows verified securing procedures aligned with injury-prevention standards to ensure safe movement and reduced fall or strain risk.

Documented Handover

Arrival is formally acknowledged at destination, ensuring accountability and continuity of care. Every transfer has a defined start and completion point.

Purpose-Built for Non-Emergency Transport

We do not operate as an emergency ambulance service. Our focus is stable, pre-scheduled stretcher transfers — allowing for appropriate pacing, planning, and oversight.

Did you know?   Individuals with limited mobility may experience increased discomfort or positioning challenges when traveling in a standard passenger vehicle for extended periods.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you provide wheelchair transportation? Aurevia provides stretcher-based transportation. If your loved one uses a wheelchair, they will be transported safely on a stretcher, and the wheelchair can be secured inside the vehicle when required.

Do you provide stair assistance? Yes. Our crews are equipped with a stair chair when required. If there are steps at the pickup or drop-off location, please let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly and ensure safe handling.

What does “bed-to-bed” service mean? Our service includes complete bed-to-bed assistance. We transfer your loved one from their chosen location inside the pickup address — whether a bed, sofa, or entry area — and assist them safely to the desired location at the destination. You do not need to move them to the curb or building entrance.

Do you offer wait-and-return service? Yes. Wait-and-return (or Treat and Return) transfers are available with pre-purchased time blocks. For longer appointments, we can schedule a return pickup after a minimum interval following drop-off.

How much notice is required to book? We recommend booking in advance whenever possible. Short-notice transfers are subject to availability.
